Many students struggle with the GRE’s quantitative section more than any other part of the test. Because of this, Target Test Prep decided to create a course that’s devoted entirely to the math section. In this review, we’ll go through what you can expect from Target Test Prep to help you decide if this is the right course for you.

Target Test Prep (TTP) offers a GRE math prep course that’s filled with helpful lessons, practice questions, and video solutions. There are some negatives to the course, including the fact that there are no verbal reasoning or analytical writing practice questions. But overall, TTP’s course provides a great overview of the GRE’s quantitative section.

Recommended for...

Target Test Prep’s course is perfect for any student who wants to improve their math skills before taking the GRE. The course is also a good choice for those who are looking for an online course they can do on their own schedule.

What we love

We love how TTP provides over 600 lessons on a wide variety of math skills. We also like how they have over 3,000 practice questions, more than 800 video solutions, and customizable practice tests. Plus, we like the free resources on their blog, and we like that they have a GRE score increase guarantee and live tutoring options.

Keep in mind

The main negative of TTP’s course is that it isn’t comprehensive. If you want to learn about the GRE’s verbal and writing sections along with the math section, this probably isn’t the course for you. Another downside to the course is that it’s entirely online. There are also no physicals study materials available.

Plans and pricing

Value for money: 7/10

Target Test Prep has three plans available: Flexible Prep, Dedicated Study, and Maximum Learning. Flexible Prep costs $99 per month. You’re billed monthly for this plan, and you can cancel anytime. Dedicated Study costs $299, and it offers four months of unlimited access. Maximum Study costs $399, and you get six months of unlimited access.

All three plans provide access to TTP’s GRE lessons, practice questions, videos, live support, learning analytics, and custom GRE practice engine. The only difference between the plans is the amount of time you can access the course.

If you want to try Target Test Prep’s course before committing to paying, they have a five-day unlimited access trial for $1. After your trial expires, you won’t be billed again unless you choose to enroll in a study plan.

While TTP’s course does include a lot of material, it is a bit pricier than other similar GRE course options. Still, if you want a course that will make you feel ready for the GRE’s math section, TTP is good value for your money.

Ease of use

Ease of use: 9/10

Target Test Prep’s online platform is modern and easy to use. When you log in to your dashboard, you’ll see progress charts that will show what you’ve learned and what you still have to work on. You can then choose which lessons you want to work on. If you want to do a practice test, you can choose the difficulty level of the questions and the types of questions to include. Everything on the platform is simple to understand and easy to find.

We also like that TTP’s platform works just as well on smartphones and tablets as it does on a computer. This makes it seamless to go from working on one device to another. Even though TTP doesn’t have a mobile app, their mobile-friendly platform works as a substitute.

One of the main downsides we found for TTP is that there are no flashcards, workbooks, or textbooks. They also don’t provide study schedules, so you will have to set your own pace for the course. But if you’re okay with working online and on your own schedule, you’ll find TTP simple to use.

What students think

Popularity: 9/10

The student reviews for TTP are mostly positive. Some of the most positive reviews came from students who hadn’t taken a math class in a long time. They said TTP’s course helped them feel ready for the GRE’s math section. Some students said they liked how many practice questions TTP has. Other students liked the practice tests TTP offered. Many users also reported that their quantitative score went up after taking the course.

There were a few students who felt that TTP’s lessons were lacking in some areas, including geometry. Some other users felt the price was a bit high. But in general, students who were looking for a quantitative GRE prep course were very happy with TTP.

Our experience

navigate. The questions covered a wide variety of problems you’ll find on the GRE math section. The video solutions are also helpful for working through the problems.

However, the self-directed nature of the course takes some getting used to. We also found we had to watch some videos a few times to understand some of the more difficult concepts. Overall, though, we found that TTP delivers on their promise of providing an in-depth course on the GRE’s math section.

Why take the Target Test Prep GRE prep course

Comprehensive Quantitative Reasoning Prep

Target Test Prep’s course has 21 chapters and 600+ lessons that cover tons of quantitative topics. With so many sections, you can be sure you’re learning nearly everything that you’ll need to know for the GRE’s quantitative section.

TTP’s modules are divided into two sections: modules 1-33 and modules 34-38. In modules 1-33, you’ll go through lessons on different quantitative reasoning skills. This includes geometry, data interpretation, algebra, and more. After you finish each module, you’ll have to take a quiz before you go onto the next section. You can choose to set the difficulty of these questions at easy, medium, or hard. In total, TTP has over 3,100 quantitative practice questions available.

In modules 34-38, you’ll work through four practice tests. These tests aren’t provided by TTP—they’re from the ETS, the company that administers the GRE. The first two tests are free, but you’ll have to purchase the other two. These tests are a good way to try out the skills you learned in TTP’s course.

Over 800 Video Solutions

TTP offers detailed text solutions and HD video solutions with the majority of their practice questions. These videos go over all the strategies you’ll need to solve the practice questions. They also provide time-saving strategies for solving problems. The videos are easy to follow and taught by GRE experts. In total, there are 30+ hours of video explanations.

Customized Study Plan

When you sign-up for Target Test Prep, the first thing you’ll do is complete a 40-question diagnostic test. You’ll have 70 minutes to finish this test. Afterward, you’ll be given a customized study plan that will address the areas you need to work on the most for the GRE. The date of your test will also be taken into consideration to ensure you’re learning everything you need to be prepared.

Free GRE Study Materials

Along with their quantitative course, Target Test Prep has a blog that’s chock-full of useful study materials. This includes blog posts that cover everything from tips for increasing your quant score to tips for studying for the GRE at home. Plus, they also have a free 15-page math formula worksheet available to download.

TTP also allows you to take their diagnostic test for free before signing up for the course. This will give you a sense of what their questions are like before you commit to paying. They also provide five high-value practice questions for free, and you can watch video solutions with each of these five practice questions.

Custom Tests

When you’re ready to try out your quantitative skills, TTP allows you to create custom practice tests. You can choose which chapters you want to be tested on, and you can pick the difficulty level of the questions. You can also choose to include either only problems you’ve gotten wrong before or only new questions. With these customized tests, you’ll be able to create a study plan that’s perfect for you.

OnTarget Learning Analytics

TTP uses a program called OnTarget Learning Analytics to track your progress in the course. On your dashboard, you’ll see a weekly progress chart that shows what you’ve learned and what you still need to work on. You’ll also see how much of each chapter you’ve completed and how many lessons you still have to go through. All of this data makes it easy for you to decide where to focus your studying.

Mobile-Friendly Platform

Target Test Prep’s platform is designed to work on laptops, tablets, and smartphones. When you log in to the app on your smartphone, you’ll see the same dashboard as you do on your laptop. This makes it easy to go from working on your computer to your phone.

Live Support

If you have any questions as you’re going through the course, TTP has a live support chat box on the bottom of your screen. Type in your question, and one of their knowledgeable experts will get back to you and help answer all of your questions. They typically respond to questions within about two hours.

Live Tutoring Options

If you’d like more one-on-one help, TTP offers tutoring services. These tutors will help you with both the verbal and the quantitative reasoning sections of the GRE. TTP’s tutoring services start at $300 an hour.

Score Increase Guarantee

TTP offers a quantitative reasoning score increase guarantee with their course. This means that if your quant score doesn’t go up after taking TTP’s course, you can get your money back.

There are a couple of catches with this guarantee. First, you have to have taken the GRE at least once before starting TTP’s course. You also have to email your ‘before’ score report to team@targettestprep.com within two weeks of signing up for TTP’s course. Second, you have to complete every single one of the modules in TTP’s Comprehensive Study Plan. This means you have to try every practice question, watch every video, and take all the prescribed practice tests.

If you meet these requirements and your quantitative GRE score doesn’t increase, email your ‘after’ score report to team@targettestprep.com within two weeks of taking the GRE again.

Keep in mind

No Verbal Reasoning or Analytical Writing Course

The main downside of Target Test Prep’s course is that there are no verbal reasoning practice questions. They also offer no analytic writing essays. If you want to brush up your skills in both verbal and quantitative reasoning, this probably isn’t the course for you.

Fewer Practice Tests

While TTP offers numerous quant practice quizzes, they don’t have any full practice tests of their own. The only tests they offer are the ones on ETS’s website. Since many other GRE courses also provide their own practice tests, this means that overall, TTP offers fewer practice tests than other GRE courses.

No Physical Study Materials

TTP’s course is entirely online, and they don’t have any textbooks or workbooks. If you like using physical textbooks and workbooks to study, this could be difficult for you.

No Live or In-Person Classes

TTP’s course is self-guided, and they don’t have any live online or in-person courses. They also don’t provide study schedules, so you’ll have to create your own. If you like a bit more guidance while you’re working, this could be tough for you.

If you want more guidance, you can take advantage of TTP’s tutoring services. But keep in mind that you’ll have to pay an additional fee for tutoring on top of the cost of the course.

Shorter Trial

TTP also offers a shorter trial than many other GRE courses. While most courses have a seven-day trial, TTP only offers five. Plus, you have to pay $1 down for the trial, while most courses have a free trial.

The final grade

Overall: 3/5

TTP has a laser-like focus on quant reasoning, and they offer tons of resources that help improve your math skills. If you’re looking for a course that will prepare you for both the verbal reasoning and math sections, TTP may not be right for you. But if you want to just work on your math skills, TTP is a great choice. This course will leave you feeling ready to tackle the GRE’s quantitative section.
